The short version
Punchly works without an account. Your work hours and workplaces are stored on your phone. Your location is used on your phone only, to notice when you arrive at or leave a workplace you saved. We never see it, we show no ads and we do not sell data.
Location
With your permission, Punchly uses precise location, including in the background ("all the time"), only to detect arrival at and departure from the workplaces you saved, so it can clock you in and out. No location history is kept. The coordinates of your saved workplaces stay on your phone and are never sent to our servers. If you decline, Punchly still works with one-tap clocking and reminders.
Wi-Fi and NFC (optional)
Wi-Fi: if you switch on "Clock in on this Wi-Fi" for a workplace, Punchly reads the name of the Wi-Fi network you are connected to, on your phone only, to start and stop your timer. Android requires location permission for apps to read that name; Punchly uses it for nothing else. The Wi-Fi name is saved with your workplace on your phone and is never sent to our servers, not even in a backup. NFC: you can write a tag that opens Punchly to clock in or out. The tag holds only a Punchly link, no personal data. NFC needs no location and sends nothing anywhere.
Data on your phone
Workplaces, clock in/out times, breaks, absences, settings and the optional name you type for the timesheet are stored in a local database on your device. Exports (PDF/CSV) are created on your phone and shared only where you choose.
Optional backup
If you choose "Back up with Google", we store your Google account identifier, your email address, and your work entries, breaks, absences and settings on our server so you can restore them on a new phone. Workplace coordinates are not included. You can sign out of backup at any time and delete the backup together with your account (see Delete my data). Data is sent over HTTPS only.
Analytics and crash data
Anonymous usage statistics are off by default and only start if you switch them on in Settings. They contain counts only, never your location, times or notes.
Advertising and sharing
No ads, no advertising identifiers, no selling or sharing of personal data with third parties.
Your rights
You can delete everything in the app (Settings, then Delete all my data), or ask us by email to delete your backup. Under GDPR and similar laws you may also request access or correction by email; we answer within 30 days.
Children
Punchly is not directed at children under 16.
Changes
If this policy changes, we update the date above and, for material changes, tell you in the app.
